woodborough hall wedding photography bride and groom walking in the gardens

Woodborough Hall is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Nottinghamshire, and Susy and Carlo’s relaxed spring wedding there was such a joy to photograph. From the light-filled orangery ceremony to the confetti outside the historic hall, their day was full of warmth, colour and genuine moments with family and friends.

As a Nottingham wedding photographer, I always love returning to Woodborough Hall. The combination of elegant interiors, stunning gardens and the bright orangery makes it a fantastic venue for natural, relaxed wedding photography.

Getting Ready at Woodborough Hall

One of the lovely things about a Woodborough Hall wedding is that everything can take place in one location. Susy got ready upstairs in the bridal suite while Carlo greeted guests downstairs in the lounge bar.

When I arrived, the atmosphere was calm and full of excitement. Susy’s dress from Ashleigh Richards Bridal hung beautifully in the room while the finishing touches of hair and makeup were taking place. Her bouquet by Dolly Girls Flowers featured soft peaches, oranges and pinks which worked perfectly with the fresh spring feel of the day.

Photographing the quiet moments before a ceremony is always special. The anticipation, laughter with family, and those final deep breaths before walking down the aisle.

An Orangery Ceremony Filled with Light

The ceremony took place in the stunning orangery at Woodborough Hall, which is one of my favourite ceremony spaces to photograph. The glass roof floods the room with natural light, creating a bright and airy setting that works beautifully for candid, emotional moments.

As Susy walked down the aisle, you could see the excitement on Carlo’s face. The ceremony included readings from family members and felt incredibly personal and relaxed. These are the moments I love capturing most – the smiles, the nerves, and the way couples look at each other when everything finally becomes real.

Confetti at the Front of Woodborough Hall

After the ceremony, guests gathered outside the front of the hall for confetti. The path leading away from the entrance is perfect for a confetti moment and creates such a fun burst of energy after the ceremony.

Susy and Carlo walked out hand in hand while their guests threw confetti around them, laughing the entire way down the path.

It’s always one of the most joyful parts of a wedding day.

Portraits in the Gardens

Woodborough Hall has some beautiful spots for couple portraits, and we took advantage of the gardens while guests enjoyed drinks outside.

Spring was just beginning to show in the grounds, with fresh greenery and colourful trees providing a lovely backdrop. Susy and Carlo were completely relaxed together, which made capturing natural portraits really easy.

We also took a few family photos in the gardens before everyone headed back inside to continue the celebrations.

Guests Enjoying Drinks in the Gardens

After Susy and Carlo’s portraits in the gardens, we joined their guests outside at Woodborough Hall where everyone was enjoying drinks and spending time together.

This part of the day is always one of my favourite moments to photograph. With the formalities of the ceremony finished, guests are relaxed and the celebrations are fully underway. It’s a lovely opportunity to capture natural, candid moments, friends catching up, family members laughing together and children exploring the gardens.

Woodborough Hall’s gardens provide such a beautiful setting for this part of the day. With the historic house as a backdrop and plenty of space for guests to mingle, it creates the perfect environment for relaxed, documentary-style wedding photography that helps tell the full story of the wedding day.

Speeches and Evening Celebrations

Later in the afternoon everyone gathered in the lounge bar for speeches from Susy’s father, Carlo, and the best men.

There was plenty of laughter and a few emotional moments as they shared stories about the couple.

As evening guests arrived, the orangery transformed into a lively space for food, music and dancing. After the cake cutting, Susy and Carlo had their first dance before the band kicked off the party.

Kind Words from Susy & Carlo

“Sally was amazing on our wedding day. I came across her instagram page and immediately knew that her style was what we wanted for our day. Her communication was excellent and she got to work as soon as she arrived on the wedding day. One guest described her as “stealthy” as she managed to get photos of everything without really noticing she was there!! The photos arrived much quicker than expected and were way beyond any expectations we had. She just managed to capture our day perfectly. Everyone had commented on the happiness and love on our day and this was truly reflected in our photos. Thank you Sally.”
