Relaxed Winter Wedding Photography

Todays wedding features Jennifer & Alex who chose the unique Horniman Museum venue to host their wedding. Followed by a pub reception at Ivy House in South London. My photography style is relaxed and colourful and I love working with natural light, so I was very excited to here they had chosen the glass victorian conservatory room at the Horniman to have their wedding ceremony in. Even in the winter the natural light is beautiful and makes for lovely photos. These two didn’t stop laughing all day. I was so happy to be their official photographer.

The Horniman Museum Wedding Photography

The Horniman is a beautiful, unusual museum with gorgeous gardens, conservatory and a bandstand overlooking london. Its a fantastic wedding venue to host your South London wedding. I love that Jen & Alex chose to have their winter wedding ceremony in the Victorian glass roof conservatory. Even in winter this room is flooded with natural light – a photographers dream! They decorated the conservatory with winter flowers featuring red roses designed by Millie Easton.

The Horniman Museum Gardens: Couples photos

After the wedding ceremony myself and the happy newlyweds went out to take photos around the Horniman grounds. Jen wore a gorgeous Pronovias dress and a Blossom and Bluebird veil. She braved the cold in order to get some beautiful couple shots around the Horniman Gardens.

The Horniman Museum Bandstand

After we took photos around the gardens we headed over to the bandstand to take some more relaxed couple photos this time with beautiful winter views on london behind and the epic bandstand. This is also where the Horniman requests that confetti is thrown – which is ideal for me as its a stunning location! Jen & Alex had such a laugh walking through the confetti tunnel the guests created for them. I love shooting confetti shots, it’s one of my favourite parts of the day.

Horniman Museum Bridal Party Portraits

After we finished taking couples photos we headed back to the conservatory to do some bridal party photos in the conservatory now that the room had emptied out. I love the natural light and the crisp winter feel to these images. I think most people think of summer weddings when they think of conservatory and glasshouse venues, however they are also perfect for winter weddings!

Ivy House Pub Wedding Reception

The reception was held at Ivy House in Nunhead. This pub is so full of character and has a large back room which you can hire for your wedding reception. Jen decided on Persian food for the reception meal to honour her heritage. This was provided by Persepolis who are based in Peckham.

I also loved the use of personalised scented wedding candles dotted around the pub too. The room smelt more and more incredible as the evening went on! And the light flickering really added to the warm winter wedding feel.

As guests entered the pub an old fashioned jazz band called Doolally Tap were playing. I loved the old fashioned feel this created it gave the pub an instant speakeasy feel and really added to the fun atmosphere!

Comedy Performances & A Glam Rock Wedding Band

They made excellent use of the stage in the pub and it saw guests put on comedy skits and Alex perform glam rock songs with his band – even Jen got on stage and performed a few songs with her friends. It was such a fun reception and the comedy skits were hilarious! Which makes sense seeing as Alex and a few of his friends write comedy for a living!
