Hazel Gap Barn sits within the Cripps & Co family of venues, well known for rustic character paired with seriously good food and thoughtful design. Set in Budby on the edge of Sherwood Forest, the red-brick barn has been restored with a lot of care and the exclusive-use feel means the day can be stylish without ever feeling stiff. It works beautifully for smaller celebrations and for bigger guest lists too, with space for up to 150 for your ceremony and wedding breakfast. Inside, there’s exposed brick, tall ceilings, timber and candlelight that makes the whole room feel warm and romantic, whatever the season. You can move between textured interiors, refined dining spaces, courtyards and open countryside without ever leaving the venue.

Every venue has its own personality. Hazel Gap Barn has a real sense of arrival and it starts with the approach. Two grand towers frame the entrance, instantly setting the tone and giving you a dramatic backdrop that feels unmistakably Hazel Gap. Step inside and the main barn changes the mood again. Brick and beams, soft light, candles, it’s intimate and flattering and it photographs beautifully during the ceremony, speeches and later on when the dancing kicks off. Outside, the courtyard is where so much of the day naturally happens. Drinks, canapés, conversations, hugs, laughter and all the little moments your guests won’t even realise are being captured by me and my camera. Those candid photos are often the images couples love to look back on.

At Hazel Gap Barn, that usually means capturing guests arriving and taking everything in, the emotion in the ceremony, the easy interaction during drinks, couple portraits that feel relaxed around the venue, plus the speeches, the laughter, and the party in the barn. When it comes to photographing couple portraits, I’ll guide you with gentle direction whilst keeping it relaxed and fun. The aim is simple, you enjoy the day with your friends and family and you still come away with a set of gorgeous photos.

Before photographing weddings in Nottinghamshire, I spent over a decade photographing weddings in London along with fashion and celebrity portraits. That background trained my eye for light and composition and it also taught me how to help people feel comfortable in front of my lens. At Hazel Gap Barn that balance works particularly well, because the venue offers such strong structure and such beautiful light, while still feeling relaxed and welcoming.
